Paul Selig was born in New York City. He studied at New York University and went on to complete a master's degree in playwriting at Yale. In the years following graduation, he describes a period of heavy drinking and drug use that eventually came to a head; he began praying, heard a voice, and stopped. A spiritual experience in 1987 left him clairvoyant. He subsequently studied energy healing and found he could receive information on behalf of clients — capacities he developed alongside a twenty-five-year teaching career at NYU.
Beginning with I Am the Word, Selig began transcribing extended verbal transmissions from a source he calls the Guides — a body of teaching concerned with identity, consciousness, and what the texts frame as alignment with a higher self. Published by Tarcher/Penguin, the series grew to more than a dozen volumes, including The Book of Love and Creation, The Book of Mastery, The Book of Truth, The Book of Freedom, and the Beyond the Known trilogy. The books are dictated texts presented without revision, and have accumulated a substantial readership among those drawn to framework over doctrine.
Selig continues to work as a channel, medium, and teacher, based in Maui. He holds faculty positions at Omega Institute, Kripalu Center, and Esalen Institute, leads international workshops, and hosts regular live-stream seminars. His work has drawn attention across a wide range of contexts, from ABC News Nightline and the Biography Channel to Harvard's Centre for the Study of World Religions. The books remain in print and in active circulation under the Tarcher/Penguin imprint, with new volumes continuing to appear.
