Masaru Emoto was a Japanese researcher who devoted his career to the study of Hado. Working in Japan, he provided Hado counselling to more than ten thousand people over the course of his practice, supporting their mental and physical wellbeing. Alongside this work, he developed a technique for photographing the crystalline structures formed by water — a method that would become the foundation of all his subsequent research and, in time, reach readers in countries across the world.

In 1999, Emoto published *Message from Water* through HADO Kyoikusha, followed by *The Hidden Messages in Water* in 2001 through Sunmark Publishing; both became worldwide bestsellers, and he would go on to author more than ten books in total. The volumes presented water crystal photographs taken under varying conditions and proposed that water could register surrounding words, thoughts, and intentions in observable, structural form. The work reached millions of readers and brought the concept of 'Memory of Water' into broad public circulation well before it became a subject of active discussion within water science.

In January 2008, Emoto established Office Masaru Emoto LLC to manage his activities and extend his research worldwide through seminars, workshops, and a network of certified Hado Instructors. He died on 17 October 2014. Staff at the office have continued producing water crystal photographs and running the programmes he built. Researchers including Dr Gerald Pollack at the University of Washington have cited *Message from Water* as work pointing toward contemporary discussions of water memory. The office continues to operate, carrying his research forward.
