Born 1980 in Long Island to Indian immigrants — both physicians. Stanford: BS, MS, PhD, and MS in engineering, plus a stint teaching a popular class on statistics and data mining. Co-founded Counsyl (genomics) and then 21.co, which became Earn.com and was acquired by Coinbase in 2018.

Served as Coinbase's first CTO and as a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz. Became one of the most widely cited voices in crypto, longevity, and political futures — in part because he treats them as one field.

In 2022 he self-published The Network State, which argued that a new kind of polity could bootstrap online, build moral consensus, accumulate capital, and then negotiate physical territory. The book has become the organising principle behind a generation of experiments. FRQNCY's Sanctuary pillar is downstream of it.
